A Helpful 'Who's Who' for Newcomers

When someone first discovers XPR Network, it can feel like a lot to take in — new projects, new names, and no easy way to know who the community already knows and trusts. One idea I keep coming back to: a simple way to surface the builders, validators, block producers, and contributors the community has recognized and supported over time. Not a ranking, not a tier. Just a friendly signpost — so when a newcomer is ready to participate on-chain, they're not starting from zero.

Pointing to What People Do, Not Ranking Who They Are

The idea is simply to make visible what people are already doing in this ecosystem — not to measure anyone's worth or rank anyone's standing. When someone validates blocks, builds here, or earns real recognition from the community over time, that's meaningful context for a newcomer making their first on-chain decisions — like who to support as a block producer, or which validators the community already backs. Not having a badge here takes nothing away from anyone. Every person in this community is equally valued and equally welcome — this would just help newcomers make those early choices with a little more grounding.

GUARD Living Up to Its Name

A protector and a guide — not just a token. If this idea ever came to life, the goal would be simple: give newcomers a clearer picture of the community they're stepping into. A way to see who the community already knows, trusts, and supports — the people whose contributions have been recognized over time. A signpost, not a scorecard. Nobody is 'more welcome' or 'more valued' for having one — it would just say: here are people the community has already stood behind. Everyone belongs here.

This is an idea I'm exploring and would love the community's input on before going any further.

Lending lets you put your crypto to work. You deposit tokens into a lending pool — on Metal X this is powered by the LOAN Protocol — borrowers use those tokens and pay interest, and that interest flows back to you. Your return is expressed as an APY (Annual Percentage Yield), which already includes compounding (your interest earning interest on itself).

Among DeFi options, lending is one of the most approachable: one asset, no token-pairing, no impermanent loss. The rate isn't fixed — it moves with supply and demand — and like all DeFi, smart contract risk exists. But the concept is transparent and the mechanics are simple.

A liquidity pool is a shared pot of two tokens that lets anyone swap between them instantly. You add equal value of both tokens (50/50), and earn a small fee every time someone swaps through your pool.

There's a trade-off: the pool constantly adjusts how much of each token you hold as prices shift. This can leave you with slightly less total value than if you'd just held — that gap is called impermanent loss. It's "impermanent" because if prices return to where they started, the gap disappears. Fee income can offset it — sometimes fully.

Plain-English version: imagine Token A gets more expensive. The pool quietly sells some of your Token A and buys more Token B to keep the balance. When you exit, you have less of the now-pricier Token A than you put in. That's the loss. The fees you earned along the way can make up for it.

Yield farming stacks bonus rewards on top of a liquidity pool position. When you add tokens to a pool you get LP tokens (a receipt for your share). Staking those LP tokens in a farm earns you extra income — like renting out your pool position for bonus pay on top of the fees it already earns.

Farm rewards are paid in a separate reward token at a variable rate. The more people farming the same pool, the lower the rate — rewards are shared. The APRs you enter below are your own assumptions; real rates shift constantly with activity and token prices.

The catch: farming doesn't remove the pool's risk. You still face impermanent loss (see the LP tab). The goal is for your combined income to outweigh it — but that's never guaranteed. Your three pieces add up like this:

Borrowing lets you borrow against your crypto without selling it. You lock up tokens you own as collateral — the pool holds them as security — and borrow other tokens against them. You pay variable interest on what you borrow. Think of it like a secured loan: put up something of value, borrow against it, keep the original asset.

To protect lenders, all loans are over-collateralized: your collateral must be worth more than what you borrow. The Collateral Factor (also called the max LTV, or Loan-to-Value) sets the cap. On Metal X this is typically ~60–70%. With $1,000 collateral at 60%, your maximum borrow is $600.

Loan health is Metal X's measure of how safe your position is. It falls if your collateral loses value. If it reaches 0%, liquidation can trigger — a third party repays part of your debt and receives a portion of your collateral plus a ~10% bonus. Keeping your LTV well below the max protects you. Borrowing carries real risk — a significant collateral price drop can trigger liquidation quickly.

Staking lets you put your crypto to work by locking tokens to earn staking rewards proportional to your stake. On XPR Network there are three distinct staking types — the simulator below covers XPR short staking.

XPR short staking (WebAuth Wallet) is flexible — unstake anytime with a ~24-hour wait. To earn rewards you must vote for 4 block producers; this voting requirement is specific to XPR short staking and your choice of producers doesn't affect reward amount. Rates are variable, historically ~4–8% annually. XPR long staking (XPR Network Explorer) locks XPR for 90 or 365 days; the reward is tied to XPR's Bitcoin-satoshi value, not a fixed rate. LOAN staking (Metal X) is separate — stake LOAN tokens to earn rewards and boost your governance voting power.

Long staking (XPR Network Explorer) locks XPR for 90 or 365 days with no early exit.
